Hello and welcome to the first Church Street Dental Centre blog. Over time, we will be looking at a range of dentistry related issues. These will include discussions on the treatments that we offer our Wincanton patients (and those from nearby Gillingham and Castle Cary) along with general oral health advice and tips. With our practice being located in this area for over fifty years, we are confident that we can provide you with the dental care that you need and sound advice too.
For the first blog though, we are going to take a brief look at some of the treatments that we provide. We will discuss these in greater detail in future blogs but we hope that you find this initial overview both interesting and useful.
We firmly believe that preventative care is key to good oral health. This includes offering advice to patients on how to clean their teeth effectively and flossing in between them too. It also means encouraging patients to come for regular check ups so that we can monitor their teeth and gums. Where any treatment is needed, it is better for this to be carried out while a problem is relatively minor rather than allowing it to develop and require more extensive treatment later on.
We offer our patients membership options which include dental hygienist visits, an important part of maintaining healthy gums, which are essential for your teeth. We also offer interest free finance (terms and conditions apply) to help our patients to spread the cost of any necessary treatments they might need.
While we aim, through preventative advice, to avoid the need for dental treatments, most patients will require some treatment at some point in their life. There are a number of options available at our Wincanton dental practice that can help to restore your teeth to a fully functional state.
Fillings – either standard or the more aesthetically pleasing tooth coloured fillings are available.
Crowns – These can be useful where there is significant damage and can restore appearance and strength of damaged or decayed teeth. They are also used to complete the dental implant process.
Bridges – These can be used when a tooth, or number of teeth, have been lost and involves attaching a replacement tooth (or teeth), to natural neighbouring teeth
Dentures – Sometimes known as โfalse teethโ these are a removable option for replacing missing teeth and have been the standard solution for many years now.
We will discuss these in more detail shortly, but essentially, they replace the whole tooth including the roots, in a way that dentures etc donโt. Unlike other tooth replacement treatments, dental implants are placed into the bone in the jaw and then act as an artificial tooth root to which a crown is attached. They provide excellent strength and stability and allow patients to eat what they want without fear of movement or difficulty.
Also sometimes called orthodontics, this is an effective way to resolve the problem of crooked or uneven teeth, not only for purely aesthetic reasons but also to improve their functionality when eating. We are able to provide clear aligners for this purpose to make the experience less visible to those around you, especially compared to traditional โtrain trackโ dental braces.
This is an increasingly popular field in dentistry, with patients becoming more aware of the possibilities to improve their smile. This can be done, for example, by using teeth coloured fillings or reshaping teeth using cosmetic bonding. Perhaps the best known treatments though are the popular teeth whitening procedure and dental veneers.
Sometimes accidents happen or we might have a severe toothache that arrives unexpectedly. In the event of this happening, we encourage our patients to contact us straight away. The sooner you contact us, the sooner we can see you. We will always try to prioritise the most urgent cases so that patients donโt have to suffer any longer than necessary. We will also provide advice to maximise comfort in the time leading up to your treatment.
We now offer a range of facial aesthetic treatments to help our patients have smoother and younger looking skin. Our fully trained clinicians will help you to make appropriate choices by discussing with you your hopes and the best way to revitalise your skin with our popular treatments. What better way to complement a new smile?
We hope that you found this brief introduction to be useful, and, of course, we are always here to answer any questions that you might have about our treatments or dental problems in general.
